Confidence and Courage

Confidence is something that can be described as a skill or a habit. And most of us could use more of it in some situations. And most of us have it - all we need to do is think about what we have achieved and how far we have become. Or perhaps you prefer to use the word courage.


Confidence and courage. They are truly the connecting links between thinking about change and making it happen. Taking action. But first comes thought or spark for a change. A discomfort with the current state.


Perhaps you desire different results in your life, different emotions, doing something new or doing something differently. It is useful to first think about why this is important to you? What kind of values are involved that are important to you? It can be having a tough talk, asking for changes in working conditions, delivering a talk, having more happiness/fulfilment etc. Whatever it is, there are values involved.


Also, what kind of strengths do you have that have helped you this far? What are the NEW strengths/habits that are needed to take you to the next level?


This is the thinking part. But change happens when taking action. And taking action again and again until it becomes more familiar.


When faced with a situation where confidence or courage is needed, going into action can be tough and perhaps it will never become totally easy (for me for example speaking in public). It is helpful to remind yourself, why are you doing this? what values does this hold for you - perhaps have some reminder cards with you. and then just doing it.


You must find enough confidence to try, enough courage to attempt! Sometimes the fear attached to it will not subside.


So to put this all together - 1. desire for a change/new outcome 2. asking yourself WHY and finding your strong why 3. courage and confidence to practice.


Where do you need more confidence right now? What can you do today to practice it?


With coaching we can explore all of it and see what are the obstacles standing in the way. Coaching can also provide valuable accountability from the coach - that is sometimes helpful to spring you into action!
